Leading sports turf contractor MJ Abbott Limited is renowned for the installation of ambitious, state of the art irrigation and water management systems at many high profile, prestigious golf courses across the UK and Europe.
Despite this impressive portfolio, Tonbridge & Malling Council were not deterred from choosing MJ Abbott through open tender to replace an existing PVC mainline irrigation pipe system with redundant green and tee sprinkler network to its 18 and 9-hole golf courses at Poult Wood Golf Centre.
"It may be considered just a municipal golf course to some," pointed out Martin Guyton, Leisure Contract Manager at the Council, "but we are immensely proud of it and although initially we had some reservations as to whether our project would be afforded the same degree of consideration given to much larger developments, I'm delighted to say that our fears were groundless. MJ Abbott could not have been more professional or attentive."
Tonbridge and Malling Council recognises the need to invest in good working practice and having done so, felt that the outstanding service and technical back-up provided by the MJ Abbott deserved to be acknowledged publicly in a formal letter.
On behalf of the council, Mr. Guyton wrote:- "I am writing to place on record my appreciation for the professional manner in which MJ Abbott Ltd have completed the afore-mentioned project.
I cannot commend highly enough the approach of every single member of the team involved in the project. It is a rare delight to work with a contractor who is so appreciative of our own objectives, so understanding of the customer interface in a project of this nature and so responsible to every request throughout the duration of the contract.
These attributes coupled with the astonishing attention to detail and high standard of workmanship resulted in the smoothest of contracts being delivered on time and on budget."
The project involved the implementation of a new design of 90mm HPPE and 63mm MDPE mainline pipework network, followed by the installation of Rain Bird 7005 tee sprinklers and 351B green sprinklers, both operating on a block system via Rain Bird solenoid valves.
MJ Abbott's Contracts Manager Nathan George said: "We were very pleased to be involved in this project and delighted by the final result. Every project and client is important to us, be it a large, high profile construction or a smaller irrigation design and installation. We aim to manage the interface between our on-site team and the client as effectively as possible to enable the smooth running of the project. Day to day communication between ourselves and the greens staff at Poult Wood and weekly communications between ourselves and the Council enabled us to achieve such a high standard of work throughout."
