Coventry Council have called off all matches scheduled for their parks pitch this weekend because of the miserable weather.
The Coventry Sunday League schedule will be particularly badly hit - this is the first time they have faced such an opening-day washout since their formation in 1962.
The ruling does not apply to private grounds or school pitches, where groundsmen will make their own decision.
The effects of the August downpour were underlined on Thursday evening when eight of the 15 Coventry Alliance fixtures were postponed and another abandoned in the 83rd minute because of bad light.
