White Horse Contractors\' training ground.jpgWhite Horse Contractors has recently invested £15,000 in developing its new staff training ground. White Horse Contractors specialises in the design and construction of natural and artificial sports turf facilities, water features and specialist pipework installations.

By investing in training and third party certification for staff through either the Construction Plant Competence Scheme (CPCS) or Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS), staff are made aware of the risks and trained in the avoidance of these at White Horse Contractors' own training ground. This is a dedicated area at White Horse Contractors' head office site in Oxfordshire on which staff are trained to use specialist plant and machinery before working on customer sites.

The White Horse Contractors team has undertaken CPCS training, which is designed to educate those who operate plant machinery within the construction industry. For contract management staff, and those who do not operate plant machinery, training on health and safety is provided by White Horse Contractors through the CSCS. White Horse Contractors aims to have 100% compliance across its business.

White Horse Contractors is able to offer its customers a fully integrated approach because of the level of expertise embodied in the company. This involves the design, consultation, landscaping, land drainage, pitch construction, engineering for water features, lakes and ponds, and maintenance. Training on the use of the specialist machinery used in each of these disciplines is provided to staff at White Horse Contractors' training ground at its Abingdon head quarters.

Robert Donald, Managing Director of White Horse Contractors is confident that training investment provides staff with a greater understanding plant capabilities and increasing risk awareness, which in turn produces a more productive and health and safety conscious workforce, "By initiating training through the CPCS and CSCS we aim to provide our staff with a very clear understanding of health and safety protocol, which is designed to reduce the risk of potential on-site incidents.

This also helps deliver peace of mind for the individual and the customer because specialist jobs require specialist machinery and we ensure that our staff are confident in the use of this. Because White Horse has a high level of staff retention, on average 11 years, we can then develop and nurture these skills."

As a leading member of several professional bodies, including the British Association of Landscape Industries and the Institute of Groundsmanship, customers are provided with reassurance that White Horse Contractors is able to provide its clients with a high level of service, delivered by a fully qualified team of market leading professionals.
