full middleAfter a very successful Fine Turf Seminar at Uxbridge County Cricket Club last year, Dennis recently returned for a repeat performance.

Hosted once again by Vic Demain, in conjunction with Dennis and Cricketworld.com the focus this time was to support local cricket Groundsmen in the Middlesex and surrounding counties. Vic welcomed over 100 delegates to his facility, including one who'd travelled all the way from the Isle of Man!

The line-up of speakers for the 2011 seminar included many new faces, including Angus Fraser, former England Fast Bowler; Stuart Kerrison, Head Groundsman at Essex County Cricket Club; Paul Taylor, Deputy Head Groundsman at Northamptonshire County Cricket Club; Jim White of Cricket World, Matt Gresty of Limagrain and Rob Kendle of A T Bone.

The programme for the day gave delegates an opportunity to talk to Dennis and SISIS teams, and view the extended product range of the recently announced 'partnership'.

Jim White started the proceedings with a very informative presentation; featuring the potential of the Cricket World.com website and advice on funding available for clubs. Angus Fraser then gave his thoughts of what he considered to be a good cricket pitch, and touched on his work with Mick Hunt, Head Groundsman at Lords - a delegate himself. Vic as host groundsman focused upon his concerns for the industry before giving experience of his time as head groundsman at Uxbridge. Matt Gresty outlined how to get a good looking and performing sward. Stuart Kerrsion followed on with an amusing account of life at Essex County Cricket Club and their many outgrounds.

Practical advice came next with Paul Taylor explaining how he and his staff turned around their County Headquarters ground, his use of a drill and fill operation was found very informative by the delegates. The day's proceedings were rounded off by Rob Kendle of A T Bone who gave an account on their role in constructing various pitch renovations.

All in all the content of the day promised to be inspiring and entertaining, and all who attended thought it certainly delivered on that.
