Dundee expands grounds maintenance fleet

By Peter Driver

The Leisure and Arts Department of Dundee City Council have expanded their grounds maintenance fleet with the purchase of two new ride-on mowers from local dealer, Fairways GM of Kinross.

The two new machines, both Ransomes Parkway triple reel mowers, will be used City-wide to help maintain cemeteries, sports pitches, public parks, athletic facilities and the esplanades along the beach fronts.RJDundee.jpg

Douglas Barr, Assistant Parks & Outdoor Leisure Manager commented at the handover of the machines,

"We always go down the quality and best value route when selecting equipment. We take into account operator preference, quality of cut, build quality and as the machines are used across the city, transport speed has to be taken into account. We are in the third year of a planned five-year machinery replacement cycle and these Parkways definitely met our criteria."

Dundee Contract Services is the contracting arm of Dundee City Council and they have also turned to Fairways GM for their latest mower requirement. Already running a fleet of 17 Ransomes Highway and Parkway triple reel mowers for grass cutting duties in the City's housing scheme areas, they have now purchased a wide area rotary mower, a Ransomes HR-6010.

Andrew Child, Land Services Manager said, "We've purchased this large rotary to assist with the workload on our housing scheme contracts. This machine has three cutting decks and can cut a 3 metre width with each pass. This makes it very productive and coupled with its easy of operation and reduced noise levels, it has been readily accepted by the operators."
