The ECB and Channel 4 will purchase 45 trailer-based turf management systems from David Jenkins Turfcare Equipment Ltd., having first seen the system at the Saltex Exhibition.

David Jenkins was first approached by Bruce Cruse, ECB Facilities Development Manager last year. Cruse has been working with a group of 45 County Pitch Advisers for over two years with an objective to create a national network of specialist groundsmen who could assist in the improvement of recreational pitches throughout the country.

Cruse identified that each Adviser needed their own set of equipment to conduct Seminars, Training Programmes and assist with rectification work and realised that the David Jenkins Turfcare Trailer System could be adapted to suit his project perfectly.

Cruse says "This system will enable an improvement in the facilities available to local cricket clubs and I'm delighted that David Jenkins has worked so closely with us to develop exactly what is needed. Club cricket is the lifeblood of our game, and good facilities will help promote cricket and lead to a higher standard of play".

After eight months of working together to develop the system, the ECB confirmed their order with the Company, with one of the first trailers being handed over at this year's Saltex Exhibition.

This project was funded by a sponsorship from Channel 4, cricket's television broadcast partner. Through their investment in grass roots cricket, Channel 4 aim to develop sustainable programmes which promote and encourage quality participation and involvement in cricket.

The ECB trailers are equipped with:-

DJ Linear Aerator
Harvester Top Dresser
Groundsman 345HD Turf Aerator
Sarel Roller
2 x Skipper Bags
3ft Dragmat
Static Seed Slotter
Levelawn Flipover 28"

All machines are fixed to secure mounting points on the specially built 14' x 6'6" Hazlewood trailers. These trailers include a special security system and a locked box for small tools, seed and fertilizers.

The system also contains full COSHH documentation and a specially compiled Operation Manual.
