Find me a job! - Andrew Brazier

Position sought - Groundsman

Location - Within 30 mile radius of Solihull, West Midlands

Our third individual looking for work is from Solihull in the West Midlands, an area of the country hit hard on the jobs front in recent years with the demise of MG Rover and the decline of the ceramics industry.

Andrew Brazier will be made redundant from his position as groundsman at Blossomfield Sports Club today, Friday 15th April.

Having worked there for 18 and a half years, redundancy was first mooted back in September last year after a decline in the club's profitability.

Following the Christmas break, the club decided to push ahead with the redundancy and put some of the work out to contract. Andrew tendered for the work but was unsuccessful.

Andrew's father was Head Greenkeeper at Robin Hood Golf Club for 42 years and he followed him into the turf care profession straight from school. He has 31 years' experience of working in multi-sports venues. As well as managing fine turf, he has experience of maintaining artificial and European clay court surfaces.

Andrew has City & Guilds Levels 1, 2 and 3 in Amenity Horticulture, PA1 and PA6 spraying certificates and a full, clean driving licence. Having been a football manager for a youth team for the past three years and a volunteer at Bournville Cricket club where he helps out with the junior section, Andrew has attended a Child Protection Workshop through the FA and holds a valid certificate in Child Protection and an Enhanced Disclosure certificate for CRB check.

He has supervisory experience, having spent five years with a local authority parks department, including a stint as acting foreman where with two other foremen, they managed around 200 staff between them.

At Blossomfield Sports Club, Andrew has largely worked alone, but has also trained and supervised YTS trainees. His role is varied and includes the maintenance and upkeep of a Birmingham League-standard cricket square and outfield, two full-sized football pitches and two mini-sized football pitches, seven tennis courts, two grass hockey pitches and a Birmingham County-standard flat bowling green. He's also responsible for the general maintenance of all surrounding areas within the club boundary and for the upkeep of all machinery. He liaises with each sporting section's chairperson with regard to the booking of pitches and courts for matches and tournaments.

Andrew would like a job in groundsmanship, preferably at a multi-sports venue within a 30 mile radius of Solihull.
