Position sought - Course Manager/Head Greenkeeper

Location - Based in Kent, but anywhere in the UK - happy to relocate

Is your course in need of an experienced greenkeeper who can be relied upon to work to superb standards? If so, you may be interested in finding out about our next 'Find me a job!' campaign candidate, Gary Mills.

To say Gary had a terrible three months at the end of 2010 is an understatement. Sadly, his mother passed away in November, then, the following month, his father was diagnosed with cancer. While his family pulled together to support eachother, the final blow came in January when he was made redundant from the golf club where he'd been course manager for 22 years.

"It came as a huge shock," he explains. "I was called in to the office and I really couldn't believe what they were telling me".

"I was responsible for a team of five staff, maintaining an 18-hole parkland course. My team and I grew in six new USGA greens along with new tees and fairways. I also oversaw the installation of a new irrigation system and new fairway drainage. Between us, we prepared the course to a high standard. I held greens meetings, worked within agreed budgets and set out risk assessments for the greenkeeping team."

Gary became unemployed on 1st February and has taken some time out to sort out his mother's estate and spend time with his family. He would like to get back in to greenkeeping as soon as possible. He currently lives in Kent, but has been doing his house up over the past few months preparing it for sale, with a view to relocating with his wife and two children.

"I hope someone will give me the opportunity to go back to doing the job I love," said Gary. "I don't mind if it's not in a managerial capacity, I just want to get back on the golf course and to earn enough to feed my family. I am a reliable, efficient, courteous, polite, supportive and helpful individual who gives 100% to my work. I have a positive outlook, a good sense of humour and I am well presented. I learn new skills quickly and I am able to produce a high standard of work.

Gary has City & Guilds phases 2 and 3 in Greenkeeping Management, PA1 and PA2 spraying certificates and is a D32/33 NVQ Assessor. He also has a Class 1 HGV licence, N.P.O.R.S (5 tonne 360 tracked) certificate and a HSE Emergency Aid certificate.

He can supply references to any potential employer upon request.
