0 Flying finish for British Seed Houses press day

Go-karting 11.jpgBritish Seed Houses welcomed members of the press to its Lincoln headquarters recently for a day which demonstrated how the company is at the cutting edge of seed breeding and is always at the front of the grid when it comes to research.

Journalists were treated to a tour of the company's high tech production facility, which includes state-of-the-art laboratories, modern warehousing, seed cleaning and mixing plants.

William Gilbert (Managing Director), Simon Taylor (Amenity Director) and Richard Brown (Amenity Field Sales Manager ) then gave interesting presentations offering plenty of food for thought for the press.

Simon Taylor looked at how changing climatic conditions are affecting the growing environment for turf, which is influencing the BSH portfolio and underlines the need for UK trials for seeds to be sold into the British market. Simon also looked at species consumption in the UK and the effect this has on grass breeding.

Velvet Bents are generating considerable interest on the golf course, and Richard Brown gave a presentation on the use of the cultivar and how it can help greenkeepers cut costs and reduce environmental impacts.

William Gilbert traced the history of British Seed Houses from its roots in Belfast to the development of its relationship with IBERS

which is producing some of the most exciting cultivars seen on the amenity market.

The day concluded with a Go Karting Grand Prix - six teams of two roared round the track with the determination to put the wind up Lewis Hamilton himself, while enjoying a fun conclusion to a fascinating and highly beneficial day.
