Developed specifically for turf producers, Barenbrug's new BAR OC amenity turf mixture promises to out-compete Poa annua ingression during early establishment and enable an even faster harvest.
Part of the new BAR range for 2009, the mixture features two brand new Barenbrug-bred cultivars: the extremely fine-leafed and fast-establishing Barhelene, which boasts high shoot density as well as excellent wear tolerance and recovery; and Barmalia, which also offers outstanding shoot density together with a speedy early establishment and strong tolerance to Red Thread.
Combining slender and strong creeping red fescues with 20 per cent perennial ryegrass and
15 per cent smooth-stalked meadowgrass, BAR OC is fortified by an 80 per cent rhizomatous-grasses content for a fine, high-quality turf with a good winter green that is also strong, hard-wearing and capable of rapid recovery.
What's more, Barmalia's tolerance to Red Thread is enhanced by tolerance to other turf diseases through the inclusion of Barcrown, with its superb tolerance to Red Thread and Dollar Spot, and the Leaf-Spot tolerant Bargold. Further protection, then, for producers in an increasingly competitive economic climate from Barenbrug, the UK's leading supplier of specialist seed mixtures to the turf market.
Barenbrug's research and development manager Jayne Leyland says that such characteristics give BAR OC the edge in achieving a healthy, high-performance turf that can out-compete weed and Poa annua ingression as well as be harvested earlier. "BAR OC is the ideal choice for turf producers seeking a fast-establishing, strong turf that is both hard-wearing and tolerant to disease, in turn helping their customers to get quality surfaces back into play as soon as possible," she comments.
