Stewart Barron left a promising career in the Army to bring up his children, who both have special needs.

Stewart Barron went looking for an education prospect for his son, but ended up in further education himself

After meeting with several SRUC Elmwood lecturers while helping his son choose which course to study, he decided to return to education himself, first completing an NC in Horticulture before moving over to Greenkeeping.

Stewart (54) is originally from the west of Scotland but now lives in Dunfermline, is graduating with an HNC in Golf Course Management and is planning to do an HND.

"The pastoral care and the dedication given to students from all the lecturers and staff within SRUC is second to none," he said. "During the Covid-19 pandemic, the biggest hurdle I faced was remote working through online lectures and meetings.

"All staff were on hand to help me if I was ever unsure of what I was required to complete and gave me first class support and advice. I have now adjusted to working remotely and enjoy the challenges that it brings."
