Goal Post Safety - Is your equipment up to standard?

Much has been written about goal post safety since former FA chief Executive Adam Crozier and National goalkeeping coach Ray Clemence launched the FA's 'Goal Post Safety' campaign back in August 2000.

Indeed, the FA has continued its campaign year on year mailing over 250,000 leaflets to clubs, schools, Youth Groups, referees, coaches and leisure facilities across the country.

However, nearly 6 years on and with plenty of publicity, it is still remarkable how many goals still do not meet the guidelines laid out or conform to European or British Standards.

Technical Surfaces visit and inspect over 50 sites a week carrying out not only assessments of the synthetic surface, but also safety checks of the facility including the equipment itself.

With this is mind, Technical Surfaces has been using the information it has collected to come up with a brand new range of equipment designed specifically for use on synthetic surfaces. The Astro-Tech® range is built to exacting standards in both its manufacture and design ensuring it conforms to the latest British and European Standards.

'We highlighted a number of areas where the present equipment on offer failed either due to bad design or through the quality of materials used' Commented Sean Colbert, National Technical Manager of Technical Surfaces. 'Our new Astro-Tech® range helps to overcome these problems by better design, use of higher grade materials and stringent manufacturing'.

The focus was aimed at 2 key areas - Movement of the goals and safety of the goals when in position. All too often damage is caused to both the surface and the equipment by dragging the goals over the pitch. Once in position the equipment is often left un-secure with inadequate counterbalance weights allowing for potential hazards of the goal toppling over. The new integral weighted roller back bar on Technical Surfaces' football goals overcomes both these problems, making movement easy and eliminating the need for counterbalance weights. Not content with finding just one solution the new folding goals also eliminate both these problems and also allow for safe storage of the goals when not in use.

The new goals are just a few of the innovations on offer in the new Astro-Tech® range, for further information or to request a brochure call Tel: 08 702 400 700 or visit www.astro-tech.co.uk
