Mindless off-road bikers caused widespread damage to greens and fairways at a Rotherham golf club.

Greenkeepers at Grange Park Golf Club were called into action to make hasty repairs after bikers ripped up turf on the course off Upper Wortley Road, Kimberworth.

But owner Richard Townley said both the golf club and the course had remained open, with pins moved to temporary greens after the damage was discovered last week.

South Yorkshire Police's off-road team said: "It appears a quad and a motorbike have mindlessly ripped up greens and fairways… for fun."

The off-road team said Concord Park Golf Club in Sheffield had also been vandalised by off-road vehicles only a few months ago.

They urged anyone with information about the vandalism to contact the police.

Mr Townley said extra security measures had been put in place in a bid to prevent future vandalism attacks.
