Grassfelt takes Gold at Chelsea Flower Show
Lindum's Grassfelt, (the unique soil-less turf of living grass grown into reinforced felt), was used by designer Andy Sturgeon for his gold medal award winning Merrill Lynch Garden, at Chelsea Flower Show.
Andy's 4 ½ metre square lawn which was specially commissioned from the Yorkshire growers was harvested in one piece, and rolled up to make the journey to London. Once on the Chelsea site it was lifted with a forklift dropped into place and rolled out like a living carpet. "Grassfelt is stronger and more durable than conventional turf which means that it can be harvested and delivered in any width or length to suit the project," explains Lindum's MD Stephen Fell. "The Merrill Lynch Garden is the latest in a string of exciting challenges."
Andy Sturgeon thinks that Grassfelt is the obvious choice for a show garden. "Like a piece of carpet it's quick and easy to install," he says. "It is an instant, perfect lawn without any ugly joins."
Grassfelt has also been used in the landscape surrounding the Stirling Award winning Laban Dance School in Deptford, at Newmarket Race Course and the Derby Arboretum.
