Gray moves on from Driffield

Press Releasein Golf

Head greenkeeper Keith Gray in leaving Driffield Golf Club after more than 40 years. He chats to the Mail's John Nicholson.

Q. You have worked as a greenkeeper for more than 40 years. How did you get into the job?

A. Well, I am a local lad and in 1961 I was looking for a job. In those days almost any job, just to get a start and I was taken on at the golf club.

I wasn't classed as a greenkeeper, I was just a worker on the course under Charlie Websdale who was the head greenkeeper, the professional and steward. There were only two of us with occasional help from a retired chap.
