Great year for Talbot Farm Landscapes

For everyone at Talbot Farm Landscapes Ltd 2004 can only be described as phenomenal.

The year started off with a sports turf exhibition at Harrogate that saw all the leading sports turf companies showing off their products and services to a worldwide audience. This was Talbot Farm Landscapes Ltd's 9th consecutive year at the exhibition that again proved to be successful. We then moved onto a contract involving three schools in North Wales for Alfred McAlpine where some 60,000 metres (approximately eight football pitches) of turf were supplied and installed. This area was then watered and maintained throughout the summer. We carried out penalty area refurbishments using large rolls of turf weighing up to half a ton that enables immediate play at various locations throughout the UK, one being at Pride Park for Derby County Football Club towards the end of the last football season.

The summer weather presented us with varying problems, the main one being the wettest August on record. Usually this is one of the drier months of the year when a lot of grass seed is put in the ground, however this year this was not the case.

We then moved onto Chelsea Football Club's prestigious new training ground in Surrey where we installed approx 64,000 metres of washed turf direct onto sand based growing medium. The sand is reinforced using fibre strands to improve structure, the turf is washed (i.e. all of the soil is removed) thus enabling the turf to root direct into the growing medium and therefore establish much quicker that would normally occur.

September saw us at another exhibition at Windsor Racecourse, this being the Sports Amenity and Landscapes Trade Exhibition which sees visitors from all over the world viewing the latest machinery, products and services available.

From Chelsea we moved onto Ascot, probably the most famous racecourse in the UK, where some 75,000 metres of large roll turf is currently being installed onto areas prepared by ourselves. Areas there include the prestigious Royal Mile.

The above two contracts were carried out for specialist turf contractor White Horse Contractors Ltd based in Oxford.

In November we travelled further afield. This exhibition was the Stadia exhibition in Berlin. This exhibition concentrated solely on football stadia and football playing surfaces. There were lively debates about the future of natural grass and synthetic pitches, it saw visitors from the Middle East, Europe and North America and was opened by Pele who took a major involvement in the debate together with representatives from UEFA and FIFA. Talbot Farm Landscapes Ltd was one of the only three exhibitors from the UK indicating that Talbot Farm Landscapes Ltd is a major player within our industry and we are at the forefront of developments within the sports turf industry.

At varying times throughout the year Talbot Farm Landscapes Ltd staff handled anything up to five artic lorry loads of turf in a single working day, almost the equivalent of a football pitch.

Together with other contracts Talbot Farm Landscapes Ltd probably installed more turf in 2004 than any other landscaper or sports turf installer in the UK.

Turf varied in widths from 16 inch to 48 inch and from 12kg in weight to approximately half a ton.

After investing heavily this year in new machinery and making further developments towards the future of turf installation we are able to offer you not only the choice of installation widths but also the choice of turf to suit your needs.

We can carry out as much or as little as you require ensuring that your playing surface is more that acceptable throughout the season.
