Greenkeeper suffers horror crush injury

A Greenkeeper from Olton Golf Club was airlifted to Selly Oak Hospital by helicopter on Monday morning after he was found crushed and trapped between two ride on lawnmowers.

The 45-year-old man suffered chest and back injuries in the incident which happened at 10.20am and was flown away for treatment by a crew from the County Air Ambulance based in Cosford, Shropshire after he had been put on a full length body splint.

Police and two ambulances also attended the scene and the man was assessed and treated by staff at hospital.

Suzie Fothergill of West Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Trust, said: "We were called out to a gentleman trapped between two machines. The man was working between the two lawnmowers on the ground when one of them rolled into him. There was no-one else involved.

"He was in a lot of pain and was treated at the scene for chest and back injuries and as a precaution he was flown to Selly Oak Hospital, which has a special trauma centre on site."
