Steve Swindell, head groundsman at Phoenix Sports & Social Club in Rotherham says that since the club bought a Jacobsen Greens King VI earlier in the season the condition of his greens has improved considerably.

"The Verticut units on the new machine have certainly helped us reduce any thatch that might have built up on the greens", he said. "We were formerly owned by Corus and the majority of our members worked for the steel manufacturer. We are now a commercial sports club and have increased our membership so that it's now a 50/50 split between former steel workers and other members.

"In my view, golf has reached its peak in terms of clubs and players and there aren't many clubs with waiting lists. It's highly competitive out there, so we have to do everything in our power to make our facilities attractive to those who want to pursue leisure activities of all sorts. That's why we're upgrading our turf maintenance fleet to ensure that we provide the best possible facilities for our golfing members.

As well as the new greens mower, Steve also took delivery of an Iseki TK546 compact tractor. Both items of equipment were supplied by his local Ransomes Jacobsen dealer, Palmers Groundcare of Selby.
