Growth at STRI Leads to New Staff

STRI have appointed three new members of staff to cope with a growing work load.

Stella Rixon takes up a new Regional Agronomist post joining STRI's Southern Area Team, managed by Dr Tim Lodge. The Southern Team covers the South-West, South Wales, the South-East, East Anglia as well as the Thames Valley where Stella will be based. She will be working with Steve Gingell who is already well established in that area and further afield in Kent.

Stella is already known by many turf care professionals in the South-East, having worked in that area for both Symbio and more recently Grass Roots Trading Co. Ltd. Her previous roles included technical sales and support, product research and development and giving educational seminars.

Stella graduated from Plymouth University in 1995 with an Honours degree in Biological Sciences specialising in ecology. After working for a short time in a biochemistry laboratory on projects for MAFF, now DEFRA, Stella first joined the sports turf industry in spring 1997.

Emma Allen has taken on the new position of Administrator with the Construction Team. In addition to general office duties Emma will organise and administer work resulting from new schemes launched, for example, by Sport England through their Green Spaces Programme. Emma will be able to build on her previous experience in customer services as she will be the main point of contact for football clubs, sports clubs, local authorities and schools who receive funding from the above schemes. She will also work closely with representatives from the organisations involved, regarding progress on each of the projects.
