Heat is on as lights preserve Cardiff City Stadium pitch

Press Releasein Football

Cardiff City have seen the light - and stadium ground staff are hoping it will help make their pitch one of the best in Britain.

The Bluebirds have spent more than £400,000 on lighting rigs which help the grass grow.

Ground staff left the grass longer when the Blues took on Italian club Aironi last night and will trim it back for City's Championship clash with Nottingham Forest at the stadium tomorrow.

The lights are on the pitch 24 hours a day and are only taken off when City or the Blues play.

"These lights are the final piece of the jigsaw in terms of our pitch," said stadium manager Wayne Nash.
