High Output Mowers to be unveiled at BTME 2006
By Mike Bird
Superseding the highly regarded F60 Series out front mowers launched in 1996, Kubota's new F80 Series comprises the F2880 and F3680 models, rated at 28hp and 36hp respectively. Apart from delivering more power than the machines they replace, the new mowers feature enhanced operator comfort, more durable cutter decks and a 25 per cent improvement in lift capacity, enabling them to deal comfortably with the most demanding commercial mowing applications.
In common with their predecessors, the F80 Series out front mowers are powered by Kubota's unique E-TVCS water-cooled diesel engines, renowned for their low levels of noise, exhaust emissions and fuel consumption, making them among the quietest and most cost-effective machines in their class.
Drive to the wheels is through a heavy duty two-range hydrostatic transmission system, giving infinitely variable speeds of up to 20 km/h (12.4mph) forward and 11 km/h (7mph) in reverse.
The Kubota F80 range is equipped with Auto Assist 4WD. Working in both forward and reverse, this feature allows the rear wheels to free wheel when turning, giving a reduced turning circle and minimising scuffing of the turf. When the turn is completed, four-wheel drive is restored to give optimum grip.
When required, four-wheel drive can be permanently engaged to provide optimum grip and safety when working, for example, on sloping ground or in particularly difficult mowing conditions. Further Kubota safety features include the use of high efficiency oil-immersed multi-plate disc brakes on the front drive wheels and a foldable ROPS and seat belt, both of which are now standard equipment on the F80 Series mowers.
For maximum durability and power delivery, power to the out front decks is transmitted via shaft drive. Customers can choose from Kubota's latest generation side or rear discharge rotary cutter decks in 1.52m (5ft) and 1.83m (6ft) widths. As an option, the 5ft side discharge deck can be matched to Kubota's 660 litre hydraulic high tip grass collector, and all of the decks can be equipped with mulching kits, which can be quickly and easily bolted on, as and when required. Further options include a road lighting kit, cruise control, turn assist brakes for work in tight corners, a tachometer and cabs, the latter due to arrive later this year.
In common with all Kubota powered equipment, the F2880 and F3680 have superb operating environments highlighted by uncluttered walk-through driver platforms, luxury suspension seats and clear and concise control positioning, as well as an adjustable steering column.
