turnberry The Westin Turnberry Resort, home to the renowned Ailsa and Kintyre championship golf courses, has taken delivery of a significant fleet of golf cars from E-Z-GO, a Textron Inc. (NYSE: TXT) company.

As Director of Golf at the prestigious resort, Paul Burley is a man who rightly demands high standards of performance from everyone on his team. He takes ultimate responsibility for ensuring that the discerning and discriminating golfers, who play the courses, enjoy every aspect of the experience. That's thousands of rounds of golf a year, on two of the world's most famous courses.

"The Ailsa has recently been voted Britain's No 1 golf course," he says, "and it regularly features in the Top Ten of any list of the World's Top 100 Golf Courses. Our customers expect nothing less than the best and it's my job to ensure they receive it."

On the Kintyre course, Turnberry operates a fleet of 18 E-Z-GO TXT golf cars all proudly displaying the Turnberry logo, together with an E-Z-GO Refresher Vehicle which acts as a 'mobile half way house' to bring refreshments and sustenance to the players and revenue to the club.

Ever mindful of the uniqueness of Turnberry Paul says, "We aim to provide our clients with the ultimate golfing experience, ensuring that they totally enjoy their time with us. We have a long history as a customer of E-Z-GO and have been very happy with the product and the service over the years. Despite intense competition from other manufacturers, who understandably wanted Turnberry's business, I saw no reason to change. I will expect continuing high standards from Ransomes Jacobsen, E-Z-GO and their dealer, Fairways; just as our customers do from me."

The Clubhouse is a veritable treasure chest of golfing memorabilia and historic achievements. The walls are lined with the portraits of Open Champions who have triumphed at Turnberry. A deep respect for the past is mixed with a tangible sense of anticipation at the return of the Amateur Championship in 2008 and The Open Championship in 2009.

Paul Burley's wider responsibility is as Golf Consultant for Starwood Hotels and Resorts throughout Europe, Africa and the Middle East. Starwood operates hotels under the Four Points by Sheraton, Le Meridien, Luxury Collection, Sheraton,
St. Regis, W and Westin brands, including the Westin Turnberry Resort.
