0 HMS Collingwood sportsground is kept shipshape with Speedcut

Work that began early last year with a full primary drainage system on a rugby and a football pitch has been completed with secondary drainage of sandslitting.

"The ground had been suffering from drainage problems for some time and we were contacted to resolve the situation," said Speedcut contracts manager Kevin Smith.

"We worked closely with the team from Pure Turf Contracts Ltd, the main contractors for the site, and the results have been excellent."

Speedcut used their two new Mastenbroek 10/12D laser-guided trenchers and pipelayers for the main drainage work.HMS Collingwood side shot of sandslit cutter.jpg

These machines cut the trenches, remove the spoil and lay the pipeline and are capable of laying in excess of 1000 metres a day if conditions are right.

"They proved their worth last year with the challenges of the weather giving us brief windows of time in which to complete contracts," said Kevin.

"Despite the appalling summer weather we caught up with all our work by the end of the year."

As well as drainage on many golf courses this year, including Haverhill in Suffolk and Broome Manor in Swindon, Speedcut have constructed sports pitches in Kent and on the Isle of Wight while carrying out contracts on football pitches including Aldershot FC and Windsor and Eaton FC. In July they carried out major drainage work at Chepstow Racecourse.
