Toro Irrigation has announced that it will be at BTME to launch a major new product for the golf industry. Previously, Toro had no plans to attend the 2007 show, a decision it had taken in similar fashion to several other large equipment manufacturers which also will not be exhibiting machinery at Harrogate in January.

Peter Mansfield, who is turf division general manager at Toro distributor Lely UK, explained that they stood by the decision not to exhibit at BTME with their traditional, large machinery stand - and emphasised that Toro would still be bringing no turf equipment to the show.

But he said the timing of the launch of a major new irrigation control system made it absolute sense to use the valuable opportunity provided by BTME to present this innovative development to the golf industry.

"We are ready to go with the launch of what is a major new irrigation product for Toro," he said. "The platform provided by BTME to unveil this to the golf industry was irresistible."

Behind the 11th-hour move is the introduction of Toro's brand new GDC 2-wire irrigation control system for golf courses, as well as other applications. Toro believes this highly-innovative Gateway Decoder Controller will attract great interest from course managers and greenkeepers. They shall now get the chance to see the product at Harrogate on stand M21 and talk to expert Toro golf irrigation staff from the UK and the USA about it.

Kenne James is The Toro Company's senior marketing manager - golf irrigation, in the international business division in the USA. He said: "The launch of Toro's new, innovative GDC decoder system will provide the industry with what we believe is the easiest product to design for and install, as well as for end-customers to use. Employing the latest technology, already proven by years of successful use in the aerospace and aviation industries, has made this reliable product both available and affordable for applications such as golf course control.

"After many years of Toro providing successful decoder systems, now based on much older technology, we are once again excited at being able to offer the golf irrigation industry such an innovative solution at what is exceptional value."
