Happy clients at Ipswich Golf Club

By Peter Driver

It's always good for a manufacturer to hear that his client is happy and this is exactly the case at Ipswich Golf Club, where course manager Norman Fenwick has just taken delivery of a second Wiedenmann aerator.

"Being a heathland course on a sand base we don't tend to have too many problems with drainage, but by aerating as we have done, we have been able to maximise the water uptake to the rootzone. If the soil is compacted the water runs off instead of down and the improved water retention has resulted in the current excellent condition of our fairways.

"The new Greens Terra Spike G160 will enable us to have a similar regime on our greens, where we plan to aerate at least 4 times a year. The aim is to promote all-year round golf with facilities that can cope with the extremes of weather that we now tend to experience on a more regular basis.WiedIpswichGC2.jpg

The equipment was purchased via local dealer, Bartram Mowers and Chas Ayres of Wiedenmann UK was on hand to commission the Greens Terra and also to undertake some detailed operator training with the greenkeeping team. Commenting during the handover, he said,

"It's always good when a client appreciates the benefits of a specialist piece of equipment and can see that it delivers what is promised. On the large Terra Spike using 25mm tines, Norman is getting really good compaction relief and now with 8mm and 12mm tines on the Greens Terra he has the flexibility to undertake various applications."
