The latest turf care machine bought by Ipswich Town FC is to appear on television.

A BBC2 camera crew was on hand to see Head Groundsman Alan Ferguson and his staff take delivery of a Koro Field Top Maker from the specialist equipment distributors, Campey Turf Care Systems.

They then filmed the machine being put through its paces on the Portman Road pitch. It will also be used on the First Division Club's training grounds.

Alan Ferguson chose the 1.2m Field Top Maker for its efficient performance and cost-effectiveness. The machine's blades can be adjusted to give optimum results. At high settings a level surface is rapidly achieved, ready for overseeding. Set lower, the blades also remove thatch and shallow-rooting grasses.

The BBC2 programme is scheduled for transmission in May or June.

Alan Ferguson is currently President of the Scottish section of the Institute of Groundsmanship. He also undertakes advisory work on fine turf and other sports surfaces.
