Jacobsen G-Plex IIIJamie Hobson, Head Greenkeeper at Stocksbridge Golf Club near Sheffield, has taken delivery of a Jacobsen G-Plex III ride-on greens mower from Golf & Turf Machinery, RANSOMES JACOBSEN's dealer for South Yorkshire. RANSOMES JACOBSEN is a Textron Inc. (NYSE: TXT) company.

The club's location, on a hilltop position in Deepcar, affords some stunning views of the surrounding area, but this presents the greenkeeping team with added problems.

"We selected the G-Plex III as our preferred greens mower because of its three-wheel drive," said Jamie Hobson. "It has great traction, which is just what we need because we are a very hilly course. You know that when it's wet you can climb the course safely to get to the highest greens. We also like the swing out rear unit and the option of lifting the cylinders with either a foot pedal or paddle on the steering column.

"We have a very supportive committee, who realise the importance of good equipment and ongoing training, so they readily accepted my proposal for the team to undergo additional operator training. Golf & Turf Machinery arranged this for us and it was delivered by Cutting Edge Training, who are nationally recognised by City & Guilds NPTC, which gives the training credibility and meaning. It was very worthwhile."

The original course, which was built in 1924, consisted of nine holes which was later extended to fifteen and then again in 1992, to its present 18 holes. Whilst relatively short by today's standards at 4,879 yards the course, with its tough terrain and sometimes strong winds, offers a stern test.
