0 January Sports Diaries go live

IMG 0250Happy New Year to you all. Just a reminder that our Pitchcare January Sports Diaries are now live and available for viewing.

Sports covered are bowls, cricket, rugby, football, golf and tennis.

The purpose of the diaries is to offer advice and guidance on the sort of work you should be contemplating to keep your playing surfaces in a good condition and fit for purpose.

No two sports grounds are the same, they all have their own set of unique requirements depending on the level of sport played, type of pitches, current condition, amount of fixtures being catered for and, more importantly, the budgets and resources available to maintain the facilities.

It is these wide ranging variables that make our industry challenging and interesting.

The months of January and February can be the most challenging in terms of retaining grass cover, especially during periods of frost and snow, however, the long range weather forecast for January is currently saying that we are in for a more varied winter than last year's.

An unsettled period bringing above average rainfall and, in the north, snow is expected to develop and last into early February. In the east and south, the second half of February is most likely to bring significant snowfall.

As for temperatures, these will be slightly below average in the north and close to average in the south with precipitation close to or slightly above average for the month

Whatever the weather throws at us, I know from experience that our practising groundsmen and greenkeepers will manage to cope and continue to provide a wonderful service for their clubs and players.
