As first time entrants, they triumphed in two categories, winning both the Solstice Park Professional Services Award and the Emery Little Environmental Award.

The awards celebrate business excellence and success in Salisbury and South Wiltshire. More than 80 local businesses were represented at the awards ceremony hosted by Spire FM and the Salisbury branch of the Federation of Small Businesses.

The judges' citation for MJ Abbott for the Professional Services Awards stated: 'This company's positive attitude to all challenges and its determination to continue to grow and be innovative and focused is impressive and inspirational.

Customer testimonials emphasise this quality and complement the company's level of customer service. This company has not only fulfilled the Professional Services Award criteria, it has shone out as an outstanding example of a business founded in South Wiltshire that we should be proud of.'

For the Environment Award they said: 'As well as meeting all of the criteria, this company has demonstrated an absolute commitment to protecting the environment, through every aspect of the business. 30,000 tons of green waste is recycled each year and any by-products from this waste are re-used or recycled including tyres that are recycled into play barks.

The company has embraced off setting through the planting of over 60,000 trees and shrubs whilst developing wetlands and lowlands to promote local wildlife. All suppliers have their environmental credentials checked to meet the client's standards and the company has replaced the use of peat with green waste and use organic fertilisers where appropriate.

Every client is educated about the environmental impact of the job which has contributed to positive amendments to projects. On site reservoirs have been built to store water from winter to re-use in the summer.'

Accepting the award on behalf of the company alongside Chairman Mike Abbott, Contracts Director Nigel Wyatt said: "We're delighted to have been recognised in this way by the local business community which we've been part of since 1963.

This is the first year we've entered these awards and we did so without expectation. As a company we're enthusiastic about recycling and use many recycled products ourselves so we're particularly pleased with the Environment Award. A huge thank you must go to all of the staff. Without the commitment, dedication and standard of work they've shown throughout the years, this recognition would not have been possible."

In addition to two glass trophies, the company has received prizes of e-commerce training to the value of £500 and £2000 of local radio advertising, which will be used to market its trade counter.
