"Our brief for these major works also includes drainage to approaches and cleaning and draining of the existing bunkers," says Nigel Wyatt, Contracts Director.

In the past, with poor drainage and soil structure this well-established club was forced to close their greens each winter.

Custom grown turf has been purchased by the club and is being laid by MJ Abbott. A rootzone compatible with the turf has been selected and laid on the new greens. Turf is laid on the same day it is delivered to the club to achieve the best possible results.

"We have an 11-week contract which includes the complete re-construction works and then laying the turf which is a 50/50 fescue bent mix," says Nigel.

"This was specified by the agronomist for the project, George Shiels of McMillan Shiels Associates."

Offering a full turnkey service to their clients, MJ Abbott is also currently involved in constructing an 18-hole golf course at Mid Ross on the shores of Loch Lomond. The company has its own dedicated team and a large fleet of specialist equipment - ensuring high quality standards are maintained on every project carried out.
