The Parks & Countryside department at Aberdeen City Council have returned to their local Ransomes Jacobsen (a Textron Inc. (NYSE: TXT) company) grounds care dealer, Fairways GM, and purchased a Jacobsen 405 fairway mower specifically to help maintain the Hazelhead and Balnagask golf courses.

With a prime responsibility for a wide range of parks and green spaces across the city, Parks & Countryside also have four golfing facilities under their remit at Hazelhead, Balnagask, Kings Links and Auchmill.

Nigel Buchan is the Fleet Manager at Aberdeen City Council and commenting on the new machine said,
"The provision of first-class recreational facilities is high on the Council's agenda and the purchase of this Fairway 405 demonstrates that commitment. Throughout the summer we become a grass factory and the 405, with its seven cutting cylinders, 4-metre wide cutting width and 4-wheel drive, gives us a machine that can provide a high quality finish to fairways across all of these courses."

Balnagask Golf Course is a challenging 18-hole coastal course with many hills and situated within a nature conservation area on the small Balnagask headland, with views over to Aberdeen Harbour It also features an adjacent 9-hole Pitch and Putt course.

The Hazlehead complex offers three courses, two 18-hole and a 9-hole together with a Pitch and Putt course. The No. 1 course was designed by Alistair McKenzie, the golf architect better known for designing Augusta National. The No. 2 course, originally a nine hole course, gained an extension in the early seventies, and was designed by Hugget, Coles and Dyer. The 9-hole Course has wide fairways and a marked absence of rough, making is the perfect starting point for the enthusiastic beginner.
