New Maruyama Machinery offers clubs new talent

A golf club in Leicestershire has been putting newly-imported Maruyama products through its paces. Maruyama is new to the UK market, but has been a firm favourite in Japan and the US since its origins in 1895.

Glen Gorse Golf Club has a policy of trying out new machinery and ideas in order that it is at the forefront of what's new and what works - and what doesn't. The club, in Oadby, Leicestershire, has reported that all six of its green-keeping staff agreed that the Maruyama range is top quality with desirable features.

DMMP, already UK agents for a number of well-established overseas brands, has been appointed UK partner and distributor for Japanese outdoor power tool expert, Maruyama. The range was officially launched at Saltex 2011 in September.

The Maruyama range includes trimmers and brush cutters, multicutter systems, edgers, blowers, hedge trimmers and accessories.

"Maruyama products have a reputation for extraordinary quality, rugged durability and superior performance," explains commercial director Colin Hood. "These are tools designed to earn a living so I was keen to ask Glen Gorse Golf Club to try them out and give us an honest opinion."

Following a complete growing season of the machinery being put to hard work, course manager at Glen Gorse Golf Club Francis Kempster was extremely impressed by the quality of the machines, the comfort to the operator and the fuel economy: "They were also very quiet and left an excellent finish on the job but the time saved on trimming bunker edges alone was much appreciated."

The green-keeping staff was also very impressed with the efficiency of the landscape blade. "It does not throw sand and debris everywhere which is wonderful," concludes Francis, "but our staff was delighted in particular not to get sand in their face which is what usually happens when using a bladecutter. We haven't seen a unit like this before - it's great for the job!"

On inception in 1895, Maruyama was a family business making fire extinguishers. Manual sprayers joined the production line in 1918. Development of a power sprayer in 1933 meant that Maruyama played an important role in disaster control and prevention as well as food production in the agricultural industry during the post-depression years. Today Masanobu Ogashira continues the commitment that began with three generations of the Uchiyama family.
