For years Bayern Munich's pitch at the Allianz Arena has been in a superb condition, but in recent weeks the turf has not looked at its best. Analysis showed that the damage from a fungal infection was so bad that the surface needed to be completely replaced.
That was the only way to ensure that the grass would be back to its usual first-class appearance again.
A decision was taken to move away from hybrid grass and use natural grass.
The old turf was torn up on Monday and Tuesday of this week and the undersoil was set up. The new pitch was rolled out on Wednesday and Thursday.
The new surface will be measured and marked out today so that Bayern will be able to play on a fresh new pitch for their next home game against Köln tomorrow, 1st October.
