World Golf Awards 2016
The Old Course, St Andrews Links, has won the coveted distinction of being crowned the World's Best Golf Course at the 2016 World Golf Awards.

The world's most famous Links lifted the award for the third successive year and also retained the titles of Best Golf Course in Europe and Scotland at the awards ceremony in the Algarve last weekend.

"We are delighted to see the world's most famous Links recognised with this prestigious award," said Euan Loudon, Chief Executive St Andrews Links Trust.

"This award not only recognises the exceptional condition and playability of the Old Course, delivered by Course Manager Gordon McKie and his team, it also recognises every aspect of the memorable experiences we strive to deliver at the Home of Golf on a daily basis. None of this would be possible without the dedication, commitment and excellence of our entire team, this award is great recognition and a fitting tribute to their continued efforts."

It marks the third successive year the Home of Golf has received the award. As with previous years, World's Best Golf Course was determined by an online survey conducted between April and October, during which time more than 1.1 million votes were cast from 216 countries/territories.

"We take great pride in promoting St Andrews as one of the world's best tourism destinations," Mr Loudon added. "Our message is not one limited to golf and conveys everything from the memories that can be created on our golf courses, the great service enjoyed in our facilities and the wonderful offering and hospitality that can be found in the town."

Renowned broadcaster Peter Alliss presented the world's best award to the Links at the weekend ceremony.
