Pitchcare welcomes new Editor

The demand for the type of services, information and assistance available on the site has increased significantly and, as a result, we have appointed a new Editor who will be responsible for building on the work already started.

The appointment will allow us to increase the number and range of articles, forums and technical information in the Magazine section and, at the same time, enable us to expand into areas such as Education and Training.

The new Editor is Laurence Gale, someone with over 30 years experience in the industry. Laurence began his career as an apprentice with the Birmingham City Council's parks team before moving on to become Head Groundsman at Portsmouth FC. He then moved onto Waterlooville GC as Deputy Head Greenkeeper. After leaving the golf club he joined the Ministry of Defence for five years before moving closer to home as a landscape client officer with Wrekin District Council in Shropshire.

A keen rugby player, he is currently working as an active sports coach with Shropshire County, coaching sport in schools and clubs.

Like us, Laurence believes that the key to improving the status and standard of Groundsmanship and Greenkeeping is through education and training. He has recently acquired an MSc in sports surface technology from Cranfield University.

He commented on his appointment -

"I am delighted to become an integral part of the Pitchcare team, my role as the new editor will enable me to offer over thirty years industry knowledge and experience. I want to ensure that Pitchcare continues to grow and gain recognition in being the leading force in providing information and technology and raising the status of all Groundsman and Greenkeepers both in the UK and abroad.

Dave Saltman and his team have worked tirelessly to develop and deliver the range of services and information provided by Pitchcare. My role will be to enhance and develop the site further by introducing new features but, more importantly, encouraging members and customers to contribute articles and information that will ensure that this site continues to stimulate the readers and provide up to date industry news."
