0 Polaris starts a Diesel Revolution

DRANGER4retouch09_10_220x147.jpgPolaris has broken new ground with the launch of the Polaris Ranger Diesel. Certainly it is ticking all the boxes and more for what you would expect of a diesel 4x4 Side x Side. Power comes from the 904cc diesel engine delivering 24hp and up to 35mph top speed.

As you would expect of a diesel, torque is substantial throughout the operating range and there are clear benefits in fuel economy. A big 34.1 litre fuel tank also means even fewer fills. But it's not just power and economy that's important.

Traction is the next consideration and the Ranger Diesel offers On Demand True All Wheel Drive, automatically engaging all four wheels when needed and then reverting back to 2WD on easier ground. Polaris VersaTrac turf mode allows operation on more sensitive terrain.

This is a big hearted diesel with massive towing and hauling capabilities, carrying up to a 1,500lbs (680.4 kg) payload of people and gear and boasting a class leading 2,000lbs (907.2kg) towing capacity. When the going gets rough the suspension comes into its own. The only 4-corner adjustable suspension system available it adjusts to softer setting for general work or stiffer for heavy-duty.

A key feature is the legendary Polaris independent suspension with 9" (22.9cm) of travel and there's a full 12" (30.5cm) of ground clearance, plenty to avoid obstructions. Polaris' Lock & Ride® accessories offer a versatile range of accessories that fit on or off the vehicle in seconds.

Bumpers, brushguards, winches and a full line-up of cabs and cab components are available. The Ranger Diesel brings home comforts to utility vehicles with class leading ergonomics and comfortable seating for three. There's a multifunctional digital gauge with odometer, tachometer, gear and AWD indicator and an analogue speedometer.

The steering can be tilted with 10" (25.4cm) of adjustability and the under-seat storage is conveniently removable. This is no quiet revolution. Polaris is shouting diesel from the hilltops and people will be joining them. Polaris Britain Ltd. 0800 915 6720 www.polaris-britain.com

Ranger Diesel leads the field at Saltex

The new Ranger Diesel led the Polaris line-up of ATVs and Utility Vehicles at Saltex, with the purpose-built Polaris off-road course at the show providing the opportunity to put it through its paces. Here was the chance to experience the power and torque of the 904cc diesel engine, class leading suspension and ride, ergonomics and comfort with seating for three.

Alongside the Ranger Diesel was the Ranger EV, the world's first true 4x4 electric Utility Vehicle, with its smooth, quiet 30hp/48V AC electric motor. The Utility Vehicle that never needs fuel, only a charge from the mains. The Polaris Ranger 400 is a Midsize Side-by-Side that lives up to the Ranger promise of 'hardest working' with real work capabilities such as over 226kg (500lbs) of cargo capacity and 567kg (1,250lbs) of towing capacity. Moving up the power scale anyone needing a real heavy-duty workhorse will find unmatched traction and capacity with the Ranger 800 6x6.

Independent six-wheel suspension and a gigantic 1-ton payload put this Polaris in a class of its own. If moving people around is a key requirement, there's room for a team of six in the Ranger 800 Crew with increased legroom, massive storage space and a powerful 760cc Twin EFI engine. The Polaris Sportsman range is represented by the economically priced Sportsman 500 H.O. and the highly versatile Sportsman 550X2 which comfortably carries two people and is available as a road legal machine.

To complete the show line-up came the beefy Sportsman 800 Big Boss 6x6 with six-wheel independent suspension and on-demand true six wheel drive, Active Descent Control, Engine Braking System and hydraulic disc brakes on all six wheels.
