0 Portlaoise GAA Breaks New Ground

artists impression.jpgIreland's largest ever sportsturf construction project broke ground last week in County Laoise, as Portlaoise GAA began work on their new state of the art sports facility.

The project involves the construction of six customised natural turf pitches and a full size 1.5 hectare synthetic pitch. The site is nearly 40 acre in total.

STRI's Richard Hayden, from neighbouring Kilkenny, is the designer and project manager for the pitch element of this new venture.

"STRI are delighted to have such an important role to play on this high profile facility. The approaches used here are being closely assessed by other counties following suit. It is a complex site that has taken many months of work, on the ground and back in head office, to design, specify and tender. I will have an active role here on site, overseeing work progress, over the coming months."

SOL Golf Construction won the main contract to install the natural turf pitches, spokesperson Esie O'Mahoney explained,Teamphoto.jpg

"It is an important contract for SOL. We intend to equal our performance in the pitch business to our success in the golf course market."

The project comes close on the heels of STRI's successes at the RDS Arena, Croke Park and Clontarf GAA and many more. STRI are currently at feasibility and design stage with a number of similar facilities around Ireland
