The Institution of Agricultural Engineers (IAgrE) has honoured David Shelton of Shelton Sportsturf Drainage Solutions (LLP) for his sustained contribution to the advancement of agriculture, horticulture and agricultural engineering throughout his career.

David heads a manufacturing business that has developed award-winning machinery and techniques for the rapid drainage of stadia and sportsfields. The equipment is marketed worldwide and has been used to drain numerous national and international sporting venues.

On receiving the award at the Institution's AGM at Stoneleigh from IAgrE president Andy Newbold David said "I am delighted to have received this award in recognition of my contribution to agricultural engineering and the landbased industries. We work in a sector that gives great job satisfaction and we should get this message over to young people thinking about a career."

Prior to establishing this business David Shelton was responsible for planning national agricultural and horticultural manpower training priorities for the Agricultural Training Board. He was also involved in the establishment of the Pershore College of Horticulture, and in horticultural education at university and county levels.

David headed the horticultural department at Riseholme Agricultural College in the late 1950/60's organising horticultural education throughout Lindsey, Lincs.
