Real progress in the sector but more to do

Alan Speddingin Industry News

Speaking at a recent Updating Event in Leicestershire, organised by the Amenity Forum, John Moverley reported real progress in the sector in its demonstration of best practice and, as a consequence, through its own voluntary actions, driving up standards.

The sector is facing continuing challenges in particular related to implementation of the Sustainable Use and Water Framework Directives. If it is to stay in control and maintain its position in terms of weed, pest and disease control, it is important that all get behind the Forum as the voluntary initiative for the sector.

However, John went on to say that there is still more to do and summarised within three key points as follows:

• We need to engage everyone
• We need all to fully understand what is required of them, including the need to engage in CPD & understand recent changes in sprayer requirements
• We need everyone to understand what is required in an integrated approach

Other topics covered at this half day event included a policy update by Grant Stark from the Chemicals Regulation Directorate, education & training by Rob Simpson from BASIS Registration and sprayer performance & testing by Duncan Russell from NSTS.

The event was hosted by Languard who also gave a presentation.

These free updating events are being held across the UK and information is available on the Forum website www.amenityforum.co.uk
Places are still available on all the days. After Cardiff on February 11th, the next event will be in Dulwich on Thursday, 19th February. Reserving a place is just a case of emailing Alan.Spedding@amenityforum.net
