Repair or Replace?

BeforeWhen a synthetic sports surface reaches a certain age and is in need of much repair, thoughts will naturally turn to resurfacing. However, as one Technical Surfaces' client recently discovered, not all facilities are irreparable, and additional usage can often be derived from a suitable programme of restoration.

The client in question, Gosling Sports Park in Hertfordshire, runs a facility that was built in 1992 and which has achieved its longevity in part due to the maintenance and remedial works carried out by Technical Surfaces. One such visit, to complete some urgent repairs to an area of the surface, prompted a full site inspection by one of the company's Technical Managers to assess the underlying need for a substantial amount of repair to restore the pitch's safety and usability.

From the initial inspection, more than 150 metres of repair was identified as a health and safety risk and centre staff was seriously considering closing the facility for re-surfacing. However, opinions soon shifted dramatically once repair works began.

After"We thought that the repairs may have to be a temporary measure until we could find funding to resurface this area", explains Grounds Manager, Neil Jaggard "However, following the completion of the repairs it was evident that the surface appears to be in excellent condition, which far surpassed our expectations."

Indeed, of all the facilities on site, Neil advises that this is the preferred pitch for customers when making bookings, as its cosmetic appearance has also been greatly enhanced.
