Repairs aim to put end to flooding at Whitehaven RL's Recreation Ground

Press Releasein Rugby

Whitehaven hope floods that have plagued the Recreation Ground for years have been consigned to history after a major repair project this week.

The postponement of last weekend's big Northern Rail Cup tie against 2010 Championship winners Halifax due to a waterlogged pitch was the final straw for Haven.

The tie had been expected to attract a bumper crowd and it was the only NR Cup game across the country that fell victim to the wet weather last weekend.

A collapsed drain at the Railway End of the stadium, a long-time problem, meant rainwater was failing to drain from the surface.

Club director Ian Harvey this week managed a project to install a new sump and electric pump which will mean water is drained away.
