Ross-on-Wye unveils plans for new irrigation system

Press Release

Ross-on-Wye Golf Club has unveiled plans to install a state-of-the-art fully automated Toro trident computerised irrigation system and has appointed specialists ISS to handle all installation.

Course Manager Jonathan Wood explains: "At the Club's April EGM, a large majority passed the proposal to install a fully automated irrigation system to replace the existing ageing system, and the contract has subsequently been awarded to ISS to install a Toro trident computerised system to service greens, tees and approaches. The installation will also include a new 3 phase electric supply and a new bore hole water supply."

The current system at the 18-hole Ross-on-Wye Golf Club, which last year celebrated its centenary, was installed over thirty years ago and whilst various additions to the original system have been made over recent years, has proved to be unreliable and not cost effective to continue to maintain. A process of acquiring specifications and quotes from various installation companies led to the selection of ISS as the preferred supplier.

Jonathan continues: "The borehole has been drilled by WB & AD Morgan's of Prestiegne following an initial geology survey to ascertain the best possible site for the water yield required."

Jonathan Wood, who has been Course Manager at Ross-on-Wye for over seven years, will project manage the installation. He says he is very happy with the decision to go ahead with the new system: "We have spent a lot of time finding the right specification for this site, at the right price, and we are very happy with the proposal for the new system.

"The new irrigation system will become a very valuable resource to manage the golf course in times of dry conditions. With the complete management of the Toro System through its PC based controller, I will be able to be precise with water application and analyse the level of water usage on a frequent basis, an invaluable aspect of irrigation today."

Jonathan will be working very closely with Gary Holden-Parker MD of ISS during the installation to determine idiosyncrasies of the system requirements, such as sprinkler placing and pipe routing.

The installation should be complete by 1st April 2005, being undertaken throughout the winter period.
