Congratulations to Russell Yezek, winner of the Huntingdonshire FA Groundsman of the Year Awards 2018.
Rob Bradshaw, Hunts FA Pitch Advisor was impressed by the groundsmen he visited and by the quality of the pitches.
Many factors were taken into account in the judging process including how many games take place each week, budget, soil type, whether the position is paid or voluntary, time dedicated to pitch maintenance, machinery available, groundsman knowledge and work undertaken in the maintenance programme.
The final rankings were as follows:
1st place - Russell Yezek - Huntingdon Rowdies Youth
2nd place - Michael Patchett - Sawtry FC
3rd place - Mick Hoy - Warboys Town FC
A spokesman for the Rowdies commented: "The club are delighted to announce that our groundsman, Russell Yezek, has been awarded Groundsman of the Year."
"Russell works continuously throughout the season ensuring our pitches are maintained to a high standard so players can enjoy football. The club are very fortunate to have such a committed, hard working person involved, congratulations Russell! Keep up the great work!"
Hunts FA would like to thank all groundsmen who dedicate time and effort to maintaining pitches allowing football to be played throughout the year.
