RTF turf on Blackpool seafrontRTF amenity lawn turf grown by Tillers Turf has been supplied to Blackpool seafront.

Following a successful trial in 2008, more than 5,000 square metres of Rhizomatous Tall Fescue turf is being supplied to line the 3.2 kilometre stretch between Blackpool North and South piers as part of the extensive project to regenerate the seaside resort.

During the trial it withstood heavy wear from the many tourists that flocked to the seafront and showed no ill effects from the full force of winter storms and salt water. RTF turf's tolerance to salt spray had never previously been tested.

Its 1.5m-deep rooting and prolific rhizomatous nature means it has excellent tolerance to summer drought and winter water-logging.

Jayne Leyland, research and development manager for Barenbrug UK, the seed company that supplies the RTF seed mixture, commented: "We're pleased to see that RTF has proved the perfect solution for this demanding location. Kudos to Tillers Turf for recognising its potential in the exposed, salt-laden environment and leading the way when it comes to RTF's myriad of uses."

From the company's turf nurseries in Market Rasen, Lincolnshire, Tillers Turf produces a range of landscaping turf suitable for any circumstances including fine lawns, shade tolerant, general landscaping and playing surfaces. Its turf is available for delivery nationwide. For more information visit www.tillersturf.co.uk or call 01652 678000.
