THIS YEAR'S SAPCA AWARDS FINALISTS

Allsports Construction and Maintenance

The design and construction of an innovative synthetic turf pitch and resin-bound gravel play area at Ayr Grammar School. Located on the roof of the school's new Early Years Teaching block, the work was undertaken in the confines of the historic property, which dates to the 1880s.

Britannia Paints

The development of a water-based binder to inhibit and remove the staining caused by iron pyrites on asphalt surfaces. The product is an effective neutraliser of staining caused by iron pyrites, safe to use, environmentally friendly and, as well as nullifying the spots, has been designed to bind the court surface to inhibit further staining.

Labosport

A new Ball Trajectory Analysis service has been developed by Labosport to assess whether ball stop mitigation is required for a sports facility, and its recommended height and location. Sophisticated trajectory models for different sports (cricket, football, rugby, golf) offer objective decision making about ball stop mitigation.

Midstream Lighting

Midstream has created a new, Modus S Series luminaire, which is a 90% recyclable, high performing sports lighting fitting that can be used in both new and retrofitted environments.

Polytan Sports Surfaces

Working in collaboration with SAPCA members (Labosport, Hunts Contractors, Playdeck, Sport and Play and Premier Line Markings), Polytan delivered a stadium track replacement project in Manchester on time and in line with the requirements for the UK Athletics Championships.

Proathletics

The design, manufacture and installation of an indoor athletics 'throwing area' for hammer, discus and javelin at Kilbarchan Indoor Athletics Facilty.

SIS Pitches

The extension and re-development of a 3G pitch University of Nottingham. The project included the inclusion of infill retention measures, upgrade to LED lighting, new 8m high fencing with bespoke lacrosse netting, a video analysis service for live streaming and other associated ancillary equipment.

Sports Labs

'Field Marshall' Impact Attenuation device. Weighing in at 14.2kg, the Field Marshall is capable of measuring force reduction (%), deformation (mm), energy restitution (%), impact values (IV) and GMax (G) results from a surface, using a device over 50% lighter than the AAA device. This opens the option for one-man testing, reducing from two technicians currently required to manoeuvre the AAA.

TigerTurf

The development of Trekboards through TigerUp. Primarily designed for infill retention and to protect the surrounding environment from infill migration, Trekboards are manufactured using 100% recycled raw materials, including end of life artificial grass. With a lifespan of more than 50 years, Trekboards will outlast traditionally used treated timber, and at the end of their life be recycled again.

Tony Patterson Sports Grounds

The development of a world class facility across a 31 acre site at the Institute of Technology, Carlow in Ireland. The project included natural pitches for football, rugby and Gaelic sports, a GAA, FIFA and World Rugby compliant 3G pitch, athletics track, jogging trail all lit using LED lighting.
