Sedgefield Racecourse apprentices
Two young apprentices are enjoying exciting new careers in horseracing after securing positions at a busy racecourse.

Megan Shutt and Jack Cranson, of Trimdon Village in County Durham, joined Sedgefield Racecourse in September and are already proving valuable members of the team.

Miss Shutt, 20, has been recruited as a sales apprentice and is attending Middlesbrough College on a weekly basis to secure an NVQ level two in retail.

The role will see her develop customer service skills and sales techniques, as well as learn how to organise events.

Jack Cranson, 19, joined as a groundsman apprentice and is also attending Houghall College near Durham City once a week to gain a level two diploma in work-based horticulture.

The apprenticeship will give him an insight into everything from turf care and fence and hurdle maintenance, to renovation and track repair.
