Speedcut team at BTME 2011 l r Kevin Smith, Dick Franklin and Barry PaceSpeedcut contractors report a busy start to the year with an increase in enquiries regarding sports surface renovation and drainage following the severe winter weather.

At BTME, Harrogate, managing director and founder Dick Franklin, together with contract managers Kevin Smith and Barry Pace, manned a busy stand that attracted a wide range of inquiries - from golf, football, rugby and cricket clubs to schools and colleges

The winter freeze, said Dick, was bound to throw up many problems on sports surfaces across the UK.

"We have seen quite an increase in enquiries regarding renovation as the winter has affected grass cover and quality in many areas," said Dick. "In parts of the country that have been extremely wet we are expecting more enquiries about drainage as heavy rainfall followed by snow normally highlights problems."

It is also being used to great effect on golf course greens

Tee laser-levelling enquiries have also increased and many golf courses are finding it cost-effective to level and restore existing tees that have become worn, rather than build new ones.

Says Dick: "Speedcut is a family-run company and the commitment to quality and service is paramount. We work hard to ensure all clients' requirements are met from initial survey to completed project."
