Scotland-based sports surfacing contractor Sportex Group has acquired synthetic sports pitch maintenance specialist Technical Surfaces.

Technical Surfaces was founded in Leicestershire in 1998 by Jonathan Gunn and Gregory Hill, and was among the first UK companies to identify and focus on the importance of maintaining artificial turf pitches.

For the past 25 years, the company has expanded its processes and services, pioneering methods and techniques which are regarded today as the industry standard.

Technical Surfaces is now widely recognised as one of the largest and leading synthetic sports surface maintenance companies in England & Wales, providing specialist and customer-focused maintenance solutions for artificial turf and polymeric sports facilities.

This acquisition, combined with the Sportex Group's existing maintenance division in Scotland, will offer an unrivalled UK-wide maintenance offering, as well as opening up Sportex Group's unique recycling solution for end-of-life artificial pitches to a wealth of clients across numerous sectors within the sports and leisure industry.

Jamie Blamire, managing director of Sportex Group, said: "We are delighted to welcome Technical Surfaces to the Sportex family.

"Even before our initial discussions with Jon, we knew of Technical Surfaces reputation and capabilities.

"The existing Technical Surfaces business is a strong one, with staff who have years of knowledge and experience behind them to assist us in making the company even better.

"I believe strongly that both maintenance businesses complement each other greatly and I look forward to the challenge of taking the company forward. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Jon for working with us over the past months and highlight the admiration and respect we have for Jon and Greg and the business they have built over the last 25 years."

Jon Gunn, former joint owner of Technical Surfaces Ltd, said: "It was extremely important to Greg's family and I, that when the time was right, Technical Surfaces was sold to a business with people who not only had our passion for maintenance but shared our business values and ethics.

"I believe I found that with Sportex Group and I genuinely couldn't think of a better company to take Technical Surfaces to the next level."
