Sports projects get share of £150,000

Four sports projects in Leicestershire are to benefit from almost £150,000 in grants.

Barwell Parish Council will receive £50,000 to install better pitch drainage to avoid waterlogged pitches at its Dovecote Way site, home of AFC Barwell.

The Emerald Centre, in Gipsy Lane, Leicester, will receive £40,200 to expand the playing areas for existing and new youth teams to play football and Gaelic football.

Houghton on the Hill Cricket Club receives £30,620, to expand its playing field into an area that is currently farm land.

Leicester's Gateway College will get £20,000 to provide students with a safe playing field. The current field has problems with stones and has no drainage.

They are among 11 projects in the East Midlands sharing a £475,000 Olympic legacy windfall from Sport England.
