Sports Turf Microbial Management Workshop

Over 60 people were invited to attend a microbial management workshop hosted by the Royal Holloway, University of London on the 11th December.

Guest speakers included Professor Alan Gange head of Biological Sciences School, Royal Holloway, Professor John Moverley OBE FRAgS FIAgE chairman of the Amenity Forum, Dr Andy Owen of Myerscough College, Christian Spring of the STRI, Steve Isaac director - Golf Course Management for the Royal & Ancient and Greg Evans Master Greenkeeper consultant for Greg Evans Golf Course Solutions.

The event pulled together a wide range of stakeholders from across the sports turf industry to identify areas of future research in microbial management.

Particular attention was paid to the impact of recent EU legislation regarding soil sustainability and pesticide control, and the potential impact to the sports turf and amenity grass industries.

It was an exciting day, with lively discussion and contributions from everyone that attended. It was agreed that further education and communication was required in regard to microbial management. Professor John Moverley was encouraged to coordinate and champion a joint action group going forwards.
